All these Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I've ever had. Not only are they are moist and chewy for days, they're unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of those flavors that could get lost once you bake with it. It can be really subtle flavor. It always bums me out when that occurs, because I really like the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

So when good brewed banana treats come together, we move a little mad for them.

These cookies make the list of banana things to go mad for. Without a doubt.

And they're so moist, they nearly melt in your mouth. Plus, using both banana and oats in them, they're basically healthy, correct? And ideal for breakfast!

Making them is equally as easy as eating them.

You have the typical suspects -- butter, brown sugar, white sugar, an egg, vanilla and mashed bananas. You begin with mixing all of those beautiful ingredients together.

I must warn you. The odor of that mixture -- with all the banana -- is intoxicating. The hubs was in the kitchen which makes the dough together with me (we made a deal that included him carbonated with me) and we both had to work hard not to place our faces, or a straw, right in to it.

Then you add all the ingredients (which usually means you simply use one bowl yay!) And mix it all together!

To bake themspoon out about a tablespoon of bread and produce a thick disc, as opposed to a chunk. They spread a bit after baking, and thus don't place them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes for a fine, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

One other thing I really like about this recipe is really where it came from.

My grandmother (my dad's mom) passed away in 2008. Once I started draining a lot a few years back, my uncle gave me cookbook that he'd had and didn't use. I have had it on my list to create numerous her desserts ever since.

My father and I made her gaufrettes (a French cookie -- my grandparents were French) a year or so past. It was a convention for my grandmother to make them each Christmas! She gave everyone a large tin of these, which has been quite an effort with 6 sons.

I now know just how much of an effort it had been! My goodness. She left them with a traditional gaufrette iron which goes over a open flame. My father and I had them on the cooker. They cook very fast and you need to be precise. Too little time and they kind of disintegrated into the iron. As long and they burnt to the iron and also we had to wash it out.

My dad was minding the batter and removing the cookies, I had been operating the ironthe hubs was timing things. It required quite a few attempts to get it right, but they had been so excellent! I have tried to make them again on my own and it never works. I would really like to share the recipe, but the dang irons are so tough to discover. And expensive. At some point, I'd love to just earn a cookie navigate here with the exact same gaufrette flavor.

For today though, I'm sharing these biscuits. I don't believe I had them when she made them, but they're from her book.

It's such an enjoyable recipe book to check through, too. There are so many handwritten pages, clippings and paper recipes that were taped to the book. I love the way that they used to write recipes at the newspaper -- they'd the man who filed it's name and adorable little stories. It is so enjoyable to browse through them! What another time in the world!

Anyways, I don't know where this recipe originated from. The newspaper appears like it was on a flier out of their square dance band or something (they have been big into square dance ). It is undoubtedly from West Virginia, where they lived.



Either way, I'm so glad to finally share a recipe out of her book with you! I made a few changes to make them thicker and puffier and they're delicious. There will be more to come out of her recipe book, but for now enjoy the banana.

MOIST AND CHEWY BANANA OATMEAL COOKIES

Return: 34-36 COOKIES


INGREDIENTS:



1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch

3 cups old fashioned oats

DIRECTIONS:

1. Mix together butter, brown sugar, egg, sugar, vanilla extract and mashed bananas until well combined.

2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and mix until blended.

3. Stir in milk.

5. Flatten dough a little bitinto thick disks. They will spread a little when baked.

7. Remove from oven and cool on cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes, then move into cooling rack to finish cooling.
